The Marvels: Brie Larson Shares Behind-the-Scenes Image

Marvel always has big plans for their upcoming films and 2022 is no different with huge titles like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ms. Marvel set to release. However, it looks like 2023 might just top that with the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, coming to theaters next July. Brie Larson, who stars as the titular hero, recently shared a new behind-the-scenes image that gives us a glimpse of not only the heroes in front of the camera but also those working hard behind the scenes.

The image sees Larson taking a selfie with Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and the film’s director Nia DaCosta (Candyman). The caption reads “WARNING: beautiful humans”. There are a couple of MCU adventures between now and The Marvels, but we do know from D23 and Ms. Marvel’s post-credit scene featuring Larson that this film will be a body-swap comedy of sorts. Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel keep swapping places, and it’s up to the Marvel trio to find out why.

The Marvels

While the original Captain Marvel movie may not be one of the most popular in the MCU, it did open many new doors for interesting storylines and characters, including Ms. Marvel and WandaVision. Ms. Marvel was a beautiful coming-of-age superhero story that focused on family, while WandaVision continued Monica Rambeau’s story in a creative way. Many fans consider both of these Disney+ shows to be two of the best in the MCU to date.

What those shows had in common were two amazing performances from The Marvel stars Vellani and Parris. So it should be fun seeing this new cosmic trio together, especially since Ms. Marvel is a die-hard fan of Captain Marvel and based her whole heroic persona around her.

The director of the film, DaCosta, is another reason to get excited about its release. Last year, she rebooted the horror film Candyman and her direction was praised by many as one of the most intriguing theatrical experiences in 2021. From that film alone, it’s clear that DaCosta has a great sense of scale, character, and tone – all essential elements when working on a huge Marvel sequel like this. Additionally, she’s also the reason The Marvel has the potential of being the most visually stunning MCU film yet.

While we wait for The Marvels to release in theaters on July 28, 2023, it’s amazing to know that a true Marvel family was made during this film’s production. You can view Larson’s new behind-the-scenes group shot down below and get excited for the release of the first publicly released trailer.
