Composer Laura Karpman Teases New Score and Iman Vellani’s Performance For “The Marvels”

Earlier this year, Iman Vellani’s self-titled television series Ms. Marvel introduced fans to Kamala Khan as she appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the actual program finished with most of the loose ends resolved, there was one major revelation that was followed by a recurring theme. However, in classic Marvel tradition, the season finale also featured its own post-credits scene, in which none other than Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) finds herself suddenly in Kamala’s room while Kamala had just disappeared.

This serves as a preamble to Kamala’s appearance in the upcoming movie The Marvels, which is scheduled to enter theatres on July 28, 2023. Marvel’s composer Laura Karpman stated that she was already composing the movie’s score during a recent one-on-one conversation with Collider. She stated, “I’m working on it. “Extremely so. I mean, I’m right in the thick of it.”

Marvel’s Penchant For Secrecy

Karpman was unable to provide much information about the film or the score due to Marvel’s penchant for secrecy. However, she was able to give a brief preview of what to expect from Vellani and the movie as a whole:

I can assure you that it will be fantastic. Additionally, Kamala makes a triumphant return and the performances are fantastic. And I absolutely adore writing music for both her and everyone else’s performances in the movie. It’s wonderful.

Karpman has experience working in the superhero industry. What If…? one of her early projects for Marvel, will see her return as composer for the second season, which will also debut in 2023. She also provided the musical score for Ms. Marvel, thus she will be in charge of transferring Kamala Khan’s to the big screen, at least in terms of music.

Nia DaCosta, who helmed Candyman, will reunite Kamala Khan, Carol Danvers, and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in The Marvels for a plot that Larson has previously called “bonkers.”

The premise of the movie is currently unknown outside of what was hinted at the conclusion of Ms. Marvel, but we do know that Zawe Ashton will play an unnamed villain, and Samuel L. Jackson will return to the character of Nick Fury.
